The Soul Matters theme for October is Cultivating Relationship. This service will be an exercise in cultivating relationship with the descendants of the original people who for thousands of years occupied the lands on which we now live. Our ancestors, immigrants all, could have learned much from the Lenape but for tragic failures of communication. What if our ancestors had followed the UU principles of belief in the inherent worth and dignity of every person; justice, equity and compassion in human relations; and respect for the interdependent web of existence of which we are all a part? Adam Waterbear DePaul, a member of tribal council and the Storykeeper for the Lenape Nation of Pennsylvania, will give a brief history of the Lenape people and share a story about the nature of weasels and the importance of respecting the interconnectedness of all things. Might there still be lessons we can learn from the Lenape and an opening for truth and reconciliation in our past and present relationship with them and with our shared planet?
