In Stillness and Perseverance is Our Power

Several religious traditions teach us the power of stillness. Yet, for many of us, stillness seems ethereal and impractical. One author asks the question, “How different would the world look if people spent as much time listening to their conscience as they did to the chattering broadcasts? If they could respond to the calls of their convictions as quickly as we answer the dings and rings of technology in our pockets?” As we move this week into the celebration of Hanukkah, perhaps we can draw some strength from the regular practice of stillness. And, perhaps, as the story of Hanukkah teaches, we might discover, along the way, perseverance and spiritual strength that brings more light and enlightenment into our lives and our world.
