The Thomas Paine Unitarian Universalist Fellowship Social Action Committee selects a charity/worthy cause that meets the values and principles of Unitarian Universalism. Half of the offering not designated as pledges is donated to the charity/cause as well as donations specified for the charity/cause. July and August’s recipient is Montgomery County Reentry Initiative (MCRI) Family Services is the lead agency for the Montgomery County Reentry Initiative (MCRI): a collaborative of over 100 members, dedicated to providing a seamless and positive transition for individuals who are returning to their communities and families following incarceration at Montgomery County Correctional Facility (MCCF). Their goal is to coordinate approaches to provide incarcerated and newly released individuals with the resources they need to achieve and sustain stability and an enhanced quality of life.
In addition to facilitating MCRI and the action teams associated with it, Family Services provides a variety of programming to individuals who are incarcerated and newly released from MCCF. This includes teaching parenting and life skills classes in and out of MCCF, coordinating the Family Visitation Rooms at MCCF, and providing intensive case management services to incarcerated and newly released individuals. Special thanks to Anne Rostosky for organizing the service on July 19 and arranging for Alissa McBride, M.S.W., Reentry Services Director, to speak with our Fellowship about this very worthwhile program.
