Our TPUUF Writers Group held its first meeting of the 2022-2023 Church Year on Saturday, October 15. Three TPUUF members attended: Butch Larcinese, Karen McCann, and Jerry
Lazzaro. Butch L. shared threads of some of his online conversations with people who disparage Unitarian Universalism and/or promote religious fundamentalism. Karen M. shared a
remembrance inspired by a prompt regarding resilience. Karl Mousley, though unable to attend, submitted a short story, inspired by the prompt, that related his boyhood experience of
unrequited love. Jerry L. shared a poem written a few years ago that evoked resilience in the wake of grief.
In addition to sharing creative efforts, the group engaged in lively discussion of experiences and ideas referenced in the works shared. Also, those present considered scheduling and structure of meetings going forward and decided:
- While the fourth Saturday of the month might be optimal for meetings, meetings in November and December would be on the third Saturday to avoid conflicting with holiday
weekends; - Writing prompts would be provided for meetings, but participants were free to share works-in-progress on any theme and, of course, in any genre or style;
- Remote participation via Zoom would be provided for those preferring that option;
- The possibility of creating an archive of meeting reports and of works shared at meetings would be explored, and options for doing so would be discussed at the meeting in November.
All TPUUF members and friends interested in sharing their writing in a collegial, supportive setting are invited to join the Writers Group. The next meeting of the group will be held
November 19, 10:30 a.m., at the Fellowship. A writing prompt for the month will be sent out on the WebVine several weeks prior to the meeting.
